Oliver is an Englishmen who arrives in Copenhagen in pursuit of yet another summer flirt. His tried and tested technique has never failed him - showing up unnanounced on the doorstep of suitable girls who fall for his charm. He stays with them for a few months before fading away. He is emotionally stunted in a way, due to an episode in his distant youth. More content with a warm bed and care-free whispers than commitment.

Upon his arrival, however, the girl in question isn't home and Oliver is broke and homeless in a strange city. Until he meets Lulu at a laundrette and the two of them each begin battling a unavoidable attraction.

Lulu is single. Finally free of a loveless nine-year relationship, she is hell-bent on being alone for awhile. Oliver's appearance on the scene doesn't help her at all. Nevertheless, she offers him a sofa to crash on until the girl gets home.

These two individuals gradually move towards one another in their naïve, emotionally-distanced way and they appear to be tackling the situation nicely. When Fate intervenes, however, presenting them with irrefutable proof that they just may be meant to be together, they are cast headlong into decision-making. Choose love or choose solitude. Oliver wants to run but he is drawn back to Lulu because however irritating it may be, a choice MUST be made.

Oliver is as cynical as his generation and Lulu is representative of our increasing reluctance to 'get involved'. Their combined 'weltschmerz' is their conflict.

Olly Needs A Place To Stay:

Oliver has seen a laundrette or two in his day. Nevetheless, he hadn't counted on showing up at this one in Copenhagen. The girl he came to surprise wasn't home. Normally, he always has a place to stay. He always meets lonely girls and shows up unannounced all over Europe in order to stay with them for a few months. Until heading back to his bartending life in Greece or the Alps. He's not a rogue. He's just a lonely man who would rather share a warm bed and whispered words of affection than to sleep alone.

But fate has dictated his movements this day. A girl will walk in shortly. A girl who will offer him a place to stay. A lovely girl who will turn out to be an unexpected, unwanted blast from his past. The last thing he needs. Commitment, dictated by fate or otherwise, is much more difficult than living a carefree life with superficial emotions.

She just got out of a loveless relationship after nine years... all she wants, all she needs is to be alone. To heal, to rediscover herself and to take it easy. Lulu doesn't need anyone in her life. Certainly not a stranger whom she met in the laundrette. Even though there is that unmistakable magical 'something' in the air, even though she knows it feels right...

It's tough for her. And when fate intervenes and hands her irrefutable proof that she should give this guy a chance, it only gets tougher.
